Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell commended Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye for the successful conduct of free and fair presidential elections earlier this year.

The meeting, held on July 18, 2024, highlighted the United States’  commitment to its partnership with Senegal, emphasizing mutual interests in democracy, human rights, regional security, and economic prosperity.

Spokesperson Matthew Miller of the Office of the Spokesperson detailed the discussions, noting that Deputy Secretary Campbell praised Senegal’s democratic strides and peaceful electoral process, reflecting the country’s commitment to democratic values and governance.

The meeting also focused on avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in expanding trade and investment opportunities. Digital technology, agriculture, and the marine economy emerged as key sectors where both nations see potential for collaborative growth.

The United States reaffirmed its support for Senegal’s development goals and expressed readiness to work closely with President Faye’s administration to advance shared objectives. This includes bolstering economic ties to foster sustainable growth and prosperity in the region.
