Hollywood and fans worldwide are mourning the sudden death of veteran actor Peter Greene, best known for his iconic villain roles in Pulp Fiction and The Mask. Greene was found dead on Friday, December 12, 2025, inside his Lower East Side apartment in New York City, authorities and his longtime manager confirmed.

Discovery and Official Details

Greene, 60, was discovered unresponsive in his Clinton Street residence shortly after 3:25 p.m. following a wellness check prompted by neighbors who had reportedly heard Christmas music playing inside the apartment for more than a day. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police have stated that no foul play is suspected, and an official cause of death has not yet been released. The New York City medical examiner is expected to determine the exact reasons behind his death.

Scene Details and Early Reports

Some early accounts from neighbours described a concerning scene when authorities entered Greene’s home, noting that he was found lying face down with visible injuries. A handwritten note referencing “I’m still a Westie” — an apparent nod to a historical New York gang — was reportedly found near the body. These details have not been officially confirmed by law enforcement, and authorities have not linked them to any criminal activity.

Career and Legacy

Peter Greene built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most compelling character actors. He gained widespread recognition in the 1990s for portraying Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994), and the menacing mobster, Dorian Tyrell, opposite Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994). Over a career spanning three decades, Greene appeared in nearly 100 film and television projects, including The Usual Suspects, Training Day, Blue Streak, and several television series.

Greene was also acclaimed for his work in the psychological drama Clean, Shaven, earning festival accolades early in his career. Beyond his on‑screen presence, colleagues remembered him as a passionate and dedicated performer with a deep commitment to his craft.

Personal Life and Reputation

Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene’s life included well‑documented struggles with addiction in the 1990s, which he later worked to overcome. Off‑camera, those close to him described a generous and compassionate personality that contrasted sharply with the intense and often villainous characters he portrayed.

At the time of his death, Greene was reportedly preparing to begin filming the independent thriller Mascots with Mickey Rourke, signaling ongoing momentum in his career.

Reactions and Mourning

Tributes have poured in from fans, peers, and industry figures following the news of his passing. His manager, Gregg Edwards, described Greene as “one of the great actors of our generation” with “a heart as big as gold,” underscoring the affection and respect he inspired among those who knew him.

As the investigation continues and more details on the cause of death emerge, the film community and audiences alike are remembering Peter Greene for his unforgettable performances and lasting impact on cinema.
