Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo secures a second term as President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), garnering congratulations from the United States. The resilience and commitment of the Congolese people in ensuring their voices were heard during the electoral process are also acknowledged.

Despite the celebratory tone, both domestic and international observers have raised concerns over significant delays and barriers to voting, citing insecurity, logistical issues, and preparatory shortcomings. Instances of fraud and corruption have further cast a shadow over the integrity of the results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), is urged by the United States to enhance transparency in the tabulation of remaining results.

The Department Spokesperson expressed regret over the challenges faced on election day and emphasized the need for leadership, accountability, and inclusivity in building national cohesion.

The United States strongly encourages Congolese authorities to conduct a thorough review of the electoral process, addressing concerns and holding accountable those who sought to undermine the people’s will. Collaborative efforts with stakeholders are also recommended to implement improvements for future elections.

Looking ahead, the United States expresses eagerness to strengthen its partnership with the DRC government and collaboratively work with the Congolese people to advance mutual interests.
