Shooting Stars Begin Optima Energy Gold Cup Campaign with Draw Against Ikorodu City.

Shooting Stars SC kicked off their Optima Energy Gold Cup campaign with a hard-fought draw against newly-promoted Ikorodu City in the Group B MatchDay One fixture at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu. The match, which marked a Southwest Derby between two Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) sides, showcased a thrilling contest filled with exciting moments and a glimpse of what fans can expect in the upcoming season.

Both teams approached the match with optimism, creating numerous chances from the outset. However, despite their efforts, neither side could find the back of the net in the first half. Ikorodu City’s new signing, Rivio Ayemwenre, came close to breaking the deadlock in the seventh minute, but his header went wide of the target.

A quarter of an hour later, Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper Abiodun Akande made an incredible save to deny Chineme Chinonso, keeping the scoreline level. The first half ended goalless, setting the stage for a tense second half.

Shooting Stars returned from the break with renewed vigour, dominating possession and putting Ikorodu City under pressure with their attacking play. However, the Oga Boys stood firm, defending resolutely to keep the scoreline intact.

As the match drew to a close, it became evident that neither side would emerge victorious, with both teams ultimately sharing the points in a goalless draw. Despite the lack of goals, the match was an encouraging start for both teams in the Optima Energy Gold Cup, with plenty to build on as the tournament progresses.
