Premier Soccer League and Title Sponsors DSTV Part Ways.

Title sponsors DSTV has announced its decision to end deal with PSL. This marks the end of a significant partnership in South African football, leaving the league open to new sponsorship opportunities.

Revenue loss, caused mainly by a sharp decline in subscriptions, combined by the departure of MultiChoice group CEO Imtiaz Patel, who’s said to be a close associate of PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, has left DStv with no choice but to abandon the league as the Premiership’s headline sponsor. This is according to an insider at MultiChoice.

‘Last week, the league told clubs to hold off on printing their jerseys for the new season as ‘there would be a new premier division logo’.

Reports indicate that Betway is emerging as the frontrunner to secure the sponsorship rights for the PSL. This potential partnership with Betway, a prominent sports betting company, could bring a fresh dynamic to the league.

Several reports emerged on Wednesday that the start of the 2024/25 Premiership season is likely to be delayed as negotiations between the league, DStv and Betway are believed to be ongoing.

The PSL is now focused on negotiating and finalising a new sponsorship deal to ensure continued support and growth for South African football. The league aims to maintain its high standards and provide an exciting season for fans and players alike.

This development comes as a major change in the PSL’s commercial landscape, and the football community eagerly awaits further announcements regarding the new sponsorship deal.
