Plateau State Police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo revealed on Thursday that eight individuals connected to the harrowing Christmas Eve attacks in Plateau State have been apprehended at various locations.

Shedding light on the dark incident that claimed the lives of nearly 200 individuals in Bokkos, Barkin-Ladi, and Mangu LGAs in December 2023, Alabo emphasized the progress made in bringing those responsible to justice.

Following the arrests, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun swiftly deployed officers to the North-Central State,  ensuring a comprehensive investigation into the tragic event. Christmas Eve attacks.

Plateau police spokesman Alfred Alabo emphasized the success of the IGP’s deployment, revealing that the suspects are now under investigation at the state CID, overseen by AIG Zone 4 and the Commissioner of Police.

The Christmas Eve assault drew condemnation globally, prompting President Bola Tinubu to order a comprehensive probe. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang joined the call for united efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Vice President Kashim Shettima personally visited the affected areas, urging residents to resist divisive rhetoric and stand united as justice is pursued for their security.

The broader context reveals a long-standing terror in North-West and central Nigeria, where bandit militias operating from remote forest bases have plagued communities, engaging in looting and kidnapping for ransom.

The competition for natural resources between nomadic herders and farmers, fueled by rapid population growth and climate pressures, has further intensified social tensions, sparking violence across the region.
