NNPC Limited’s upstream subsidiary, NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NNPC E&P Ltd), in collaboration with Natural Oilfield Services Ltd (NOSL), a subsidiary of Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Ltd (SEEPCO), has initiated oil production at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13 in Akwa Ibom State.

As disclosed by Mr. Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer at NNPC Ltd, production at OML 13 commenced on May 6th, 2024, with an initial output of 6,000 barrels of oil. The partners aim to scale up production to 40,000 barrels per day by May 27th, 2024.

Soneye emphasized the historical significance of this achievement, stating the dedication of NNPC E&P Ltd and NOSL to drive growth and development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

“This milestone not only reflects meticulous planning and execution by the involved teams but also heralds a new era of economic empowerment and development opportunities for the host communities,” stated Soneye.

Moreover, the commencement of oil production at OML 13 holds strategic importance for Nigeria’s efforts to augment its oil production capacity, essential for meeting domestic energy demands and fostering economic growth.

Soneye further affirmed the commitment of NNPC E&P Ltd and NOSL to operate in a manner that prioritizes safety, environmental responsibility, and benefits for local communities.

OML 13 is poised to become a cornerstone in Nigeria’s quest for energy security and economic prosperity, with NNPC and NOSL leading the charge towards achieving production targets and driving socio-economic development in the region.
