In a recent interview on Channels TV, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner and CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), disclosed that more than 60 million Nigerians actively engage in various gaming activities.

This revelation comes in the wake of the NDPC’s launch of its comprehensive five-year data strategic roadmap and action plan, known as NDP-SRAP 2023-2027.

The strategic plan encompasses five key pillars, namely governance, ecosystem and technology, human capital development, cooperation and collaboration, and funding and sustainability.

Dr. Olatunji, during the interview, emphasized the importance of collaboration and cooperation as the fifth pillar, highlighting the NDPC’s commitment to working closely with diverse stakeholders to achieve its strategic objectives effectively.

Dr. Olatunji stated, “Collaboration with stakeholders in Nigeria from different sectors and cooperation with international organizations and development partners are essential aspects of our strategic plan.”

He cited recent workshops and partnerships with various entities, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on privacy issues related to data protection in the financial sector, collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and engagement with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

“We already have Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with several organizations, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

According to our data, approximately 60 million Nigerians are involved in various forms of gaming,” Dr. Olatunji added, underscoring the significance of partnerships in achieving the NDPC’s goals.
