Federal Government Scraps Ministry Of Sports Development And Niger Delta Ministry.

President Bola Tinubu, in conjunction with the Federal Executive Council (FEC), has abolished the Ministry of Sports Development and the Niger Delta Ministry. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The government has also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, a move aimed at streamlining administrative functions and fostering growth in related sectors.

Onanuga revealed that a new Ministry of Regional Development has been created to oversee the operations of all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.

Furthermore, the National Sports Commission will now assume the responsibilities previously held by the Ministry of Sports Development. This restructuring is expected to enhance efficiency in the administration of regional and sports-related activities across the country.

The changes were finalised during the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
