The lungs play a vital role in ensuring the body’s proper function.

Susceptible to conditions like asthma, pneumonia and cystic fibroids caused by inhaling harmful elements like air pollutants, the lungs require better care to prevent these conditions.

And one way to properly care for your lungs is to switch to a healthy diet to ensure your lungs remain in optimal condition. One question you might have is how do I know what foods are healthy for my lungs?

No need to look further; these seven lung healthy foods will ensure you breathe better as your lungs function even better:

Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, and that’s 100% true and not just because they possess antioxidants that keep your lungs healthy. Research has also linked lung health with high intakes of vitamin C, E and beta-carotene, all of which apples contain.

Walnuts

A well-known source of omega-3 fatty acids, consuming walnuts can improve lung function, reducing the risk of asthma and other respiratory conditions. These omega-3 fatty acids contain anti-inflammatory nutrients which protect against inflammatory ailments.

Ginger

Our list would definitely be incomplete without mentioning ginger. This well-known spice is not just anti-inflammatory; it is also a great detoxifier, removing toxins from the lungs while improvising circulation.

Garlic

Often used alongside ginger, garlic contains flavonoids that stimulate glutathione production, needed to remove toxins and carcinogens from the lungs, boosting lung health.

Turmeric

Not meant for only its skin brightening properties, turmeric contains curcumin, a compound that relieves information of the airways and tightness of chests often experienced with asthma.

Flaxseeds

An important addition to your smoothies, flaxseeds possess great benefits for your lungs.

Berries

Berry lovers have nothing to lose when it comes to lung health. Especially acai and blueberries. Rich in vitamin C, which fights cell-damaging free radicals, berries are welcomed to a lung healthy diet.

While adding all of this to your diet, it is also important to drink a lot of water. A proven detoxifier, water is important to ensure circulation and hydration in your lungs.
