LAGOS, Nigeria, October 27, 2026 — Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO or the Group), has exciting news! The company recently announced that two of their subsidiaries, Guaranty Trust Bank Limited (GTBank), and HabariPay, are officially live with Google Pay, just in time for its launch in Nigeria. This move highlights the Group’s dedication to providing innovative, secure, and convenient digital payment solutions for both individuals and businesses.

One Launch. Two Sides of the Payment Experience.

This integration brings together two crucial elements of the digital payments landscape: the customer making a payment and the merchant receiving it.

GTBank customers can easily add their eligible GTBank debit cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay for online transactions, both in Nigeria and internationally. Meanwhile, businesses utilising HabariPay’s Squad payment gateway can now accept Google Pay at checkout, offering customers yet another hassle-free payment option while broadening the choices available to merchants.

This development marks another significant step in GTCO’s mission to simplify digital transactions, enhance customer experiences, and support the ongoing growth of Nigeria’s digital economy.

Fewer Steps. Greater Convenience. Secure Online Payments.

For GTBank customers, Google Pay provides a seamless way to shop online without the hassle of repeatedly entering card details. Once an eligible debit card is added to Google Wallet, customers can simply select Google Pay at participating checkouts, choose their preferred card, and confirm the transaction.

Google Pay employs a secure digital token instead of the actual card number, ensuring that sensitive card information is protected during transactions.

Customers can use Google Pay wherever it’s accepted online for a variety of everyday digital purchases, including subscriptions, travel bookings, food delivery, bill payments, and more.

By minimising the need to manually input payment information, this integration offers customers a smoother checkout experience while keeping payment security front and center.

Squad Merchants Gain Another Way to Convert Customer Intent into Sales.

For merchants, this integration seamlessly brings Google Pay right into the Squad payment gateway, alongside other payment options like cards, bank transfers, USSD, bank payments, and Squad’s buy-now-pay-later services.

Google Pay is automatically enabled for businesses using the gateway, but merchants have the flexibility to turn it off if they choose.

Customers who have eligible cards saved in Google Wallet can make payments in just a few simple steps, which cuts down on the hassle of manual data entry during checkout. For businesses that are set up to handle international payments, this integration opens up new avenues to serve Google Pay users globally, including those in the Nigerian diaspora.

By adding another convenient payment option to the Squad checkout experience, HabariPay is focused on helping businesses minimise unnecessary friction in online transactions and tackle the issues that often lead to abandoned carts.

“Most Failed Online Payments Are Not Refused, They Are Abandoned.”

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Segun Agbaje, the Group Chief Executive Officer of GTCO, shared his thoughts:

“Most online payment failures aren’t actually due to refusals; they’re simply abandoned. At some point, the customer loses patience, and the business misses out on a sale without even realising it. As a customer-focused Financial Services Group, we’re dedicated to providing payment solutions that make transactions both safe and straightforward for all our customer groups. With Google Pay, we’re excited that from day one, a GTBank customer can easily make payments, and businesses on Squad can accept them seamlessly.”

He continued:

“This is the essence of our group structure. Our Bank and Payments Business were designed for distinct roles, and today they converge at the same checkout. We’re committed to supporting those crucial moments when customers decide if digital payments are worth the hassle. When they do, it’s a win-win for everyone involved: the customer, the merchant, and the broader economy that relies on both.”

Bringing Payment Convenience Closer to the Point of Purchase.

Mrs. Eduofon Japhet, the Managing Director of HabariPay, added:

“For merchants, every extra field at checkout can be a reason for customers to abandon their carts. Now, Squad businesses can integrate Google Pay directly into their existing checkout process, allowing customers to pay with just a few taps using a card they’ve already saved. Merchants set up for international payments can now receive Google Pay from customers around the globe without needing to integrate anything new.”

Her comments highlight how crucial it is to make payment options easily accessible at the point of purchase, where a smooth checkout experience can significantly impact a customer’s decision to finalise a transaction.

For Squad merchants, this integration means Google Pay is now available within their current payment gateway, eliminating the need for a separate setup to offer this payment option. This creates an additional avenue to cater to customers who prefer using cards stored in Google.

A Connected Payments Ecosystem Built Around Customers and Businesses.

The launch highlights GTCO’s larger vision of harnessing the strengths of its banking and payments sectors to create practical solutions that meet the changing needs of customers.

By merging the ease of digital payments for consumers with flexible acceptance options for merchants, GTBank and HabariPay are enhancing the Group’s involvement throughout the online payment experience.

This strategy emphasizes making digital transactions more user-friendly and efficient, while also aiding businesses that aim to cater to customers in a rapidly digitising marketplace.

As digital commerce keeps advancing, offering convenient payment options for customers and accessible acceptance solutions for merchants is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and efficient digital economy.

Availability: Getting Started with Google Pay.

GTBank customers can easily add an eligible GTBank debit card via the Google Wallet app on Android or through their Google Account.

For businesses using the Squad payment gateway, Google Pay is automatically enabled, although merchants have the option to turn it off if they prefer.

Merchants using Squad who are set up for international payments can accept Google Pay from customers around the globe, wherever the service is available.
