Tiger nuts are sweet edible fibers; they are used as both fruits and medicine.

From research, tiger nuts have diverse health benefits and some are discussed below.

Improve digestion

Tiger nut can be used to improve digestion in various ways. They contain resistant starch, a type of fiber that can feed the friendly bacteria in the body, thereby, making digestion run smoothly. Again, present in tiger nut are enzymes, such as catalayst, lipases and amylases, which help in breaking down foods in the gut, therefore, relieving gas, indigestion and diarrhea.

Reduce sugar level

Research shows that tiger nuts extract may help reduce blood sugar levels. This may be due to the high fiber content of the tubers which may slow down the absorption of sugar in the body. They are also rich in the amino acid arginine, which may increase insulin production and sensitivity, both of which are important for blood sugar control.

Boost Immunity

According to research, tiger nuts may contribute to a stronger immune system by fighting infections, including those from antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Aphrodisiac

Tiger nut can be taken to boost libido in both men and women. For men, tiger nut can be used to treat erectile dysfunction and boost sperm count. The milk can be extracted from tiger nut for this purpose.

Source of Magnesium

Magnesium is responsible for over 300 biochemical interactions in the body, hence, the importance of keeping the body with a beneficial dose of this essential element.

Also, magnesium is strongly related to kidney care, prevention of menstrual problems in women and maintaining the body pH stable to avoid the appearance of dermatitis or fungal infections.

Tiger nut has a lot of magnesium and if consumed, it can contribute to 13-17% of magnesium needed daily in adults. This also help fight against tooth decay.
