In an online briefing hosted by the U.S. Department of State’s London International Media Hub, U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, stated the urgent need for peace efforts in Sudan amidst a dire humanitarian crisis.

Perriello addressed participants from around the world, concerning the gravity of the crisis, noting the lack of global and media attention towards the suffering in Sudan. He stated the unified desire of the Sudanese people for an end to the ongoing war, full humanitarian access, and the restoration of their future.

During the briefing, Perriello outlined the priorities of diplomatic engagements in Sudan, focusing on the urgent need for peace to halt the escalating humanitarian crisis. He stated the importance of inclusive talks involving regional and global partners to advance peace efforts effectively.

Responding to questions from journalists, Perriello spoke about the impact of U.S. sanctions on deterring atrocities and reiterated the commitment to hold perpetrators of war crimes accountable. He emphasized the necessity of inclusive peace talks and cooperation with regional partners to address food shortages and humanitarian challenges.

Perriello addressed concerns regarding the involvement of external actors in the conflict, emphasizing the need for stability and inclusive governance in Sudan. He reiterated the commitment to engage with parties serious about peace while cautioning against those seeking to exploit the crisis for personal gain.

In conclusion, Perriello expressed optimism about the prospects of reaching a political settlement and urged immediate action to avert further catastrophe in Sudan.
