Adamawa State Government has confirmed a devastating outbreak of measles resulting in the loss of 42 lives.

The grim toll was disclosed by Felix Tangwame, the State Commissioner of Health and Human Services, following an update on the situation. The affected areas primarily include Mubi and Gombi local government areas.

In a statement to reporters after a crucial executive council meeting at the Government House in Yola, Tangwame detailed that the outbreak has struck eight wards in Mubi and seven in Gombi. Out of 131 and 177 affected individuals in the respective LGAs, the death toll stands at a distressing 42.

Tangwame emphasised the swift response of his ministry upon receiving reports of the outbreak, which facilitated effective management of the situation. He also assured that the government, in collaboration with development partners, is actively addressing the crisis.

This tragic episode underscores the importance of robust public health measures and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in combating infectious diseases.
