The Federal Government has clamped down on 23 illegal courier operators in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

It was learnt that the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, led by the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), enforcement team conducted the clampdown around Area 11 Garki and other areas within Abuja on Thursday.

Earlier, the Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO, Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju charged the CLRD enforcement team with the commitment to sanitizing the courier and logistics industry.

He reiterated that NIPOST is committed to straightening the mechanisms for implementing a standardized regulation for NIPOST to regulate, licence, and monitor the Postal, Courier, Express and Logistics operation in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the General Manager Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Dotun Shode, who led the operation impounded several dispatch motorcycles of unregistered, unlicensed and illegal courier operators.

The Enforcement Operation was carried out by a combined team of NIPOST (CLRD), officials, Armed mobile Police Officers from the FCT Police Command and Men of the Force Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (FCIID).

Shode, expressed deep concern over some of the Operators’ reckless display of sharp unethical practices, especially the unlicensed and unregistered ones nationwide. Hence, the need for regular clampdown exercises nationwide.

Mr. Shonde stresses that operating without a valid license is a crime against the state. “It is tantamount to economic sabotage, unethical practices, and illegal operations and this will no longer be tolerated.

The Assistant General Manager, Ethics, Complaint and Strategy, Worimegbe Banks, also led the enforcement activities recently in Lagos State and (FCT), Abuja again this year.

Over Five Hundred (500), Unlicensed and Illegal Courier and Logistics Operators have recently been clamped down.
