Agboola Ajayi, former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, clinched the candidacy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming November governorship election.

Previously contesting under the Zenith Labour Party in 2020, where he landed third, Ajayi secured victory at the PDP primary with 264 votes, defeating six other aspirants.

Out of the 627 elected delegates, 621 were accredited to vote. Kolade Akinjo, a former House of Representatives member, came in second with 157 votes, while two votes were deemed invalid.

Other notable vote counts included Ebiseni Olusola with 99 votes and Otunba Bamidele Akingboye with 24 votes.

Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, expressed optimism in Ajayi’s candidacy, citing a commitment from all aspirants to support the party’s chosen candidate.

Ajayi, in response, hailed the transparency of the primary and pledged to lead the PDP to victory in the upcoming election, thanking the party’s national leadership for ensuring a credible process.
