In a gesture of support and encouragement, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to host the Super Eagles on Tuesday night before their departure to Cote d’Ivoire for the much-anticipated 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially announced this exciting pre-departure event in a statement shared on its official platform, X, on Monday, January 8. The statement emphasized Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to rallying behind the national team ahead of their campaign in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles, three-time champions of the AFCON, are gearing up for the challenging tournament, which kicks off this weekend. The team is expected to gather at a special event hosted by Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday night, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and patriotism as they bid farewell to their home country.

In the statement released by the NFF, it reads, “Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will host the Super Eagles on Tuesday night, hours before the three-time champions depart for Cote d’Ivoire to participate in the 34th Africa Cup of Nations finals starting this weekend.”

This send-off event is poised to be a moment of inspiration and motivation for the Super Eagles as they embark on their journey to compete against the best teams in Africa. With the support of the governor and the entire nation behind them, the Nigerian football team aims to make a mark and bring home the prestigious AFCON trophy.

As fans eagerly await the outcome of the tournament, the governor’s gesture highlights the unity and pride associated with sports in Nigeria. The Super Eagles’ departure from Lagos to Cote d’Ivoire is now anticipated to be not just a physical journey but a symbolic representation of the nation’s spirit and determination on the African football stage.
