D’Tigers Slip in Latest FIBA Rankings Following Olympic Qualifier Disappointment.

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have experienced a drop in the latest FIBA world rankings, following a disappointing period of form that culminated in their failure to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The ranking, released on Thursday by FIBA, saw D’Tigers fall four places to 42nd in the world, with a total of 299.7 points. This decline also places them 6th among African teams, with South Sudan maintaining its position as the continent’s highest-ranked team.

D’Tigers’ recent struggles have raised concerns about the future of Nigerian basketball on the international stage. Their failure to secure a spot in the Olympics has been a significant setback, reflecting a broader decline in performance.

The top 10 African teams according to the latest FIBA rankings are as follows:

1. South Sudan

2. Côte d’Ivoire

3. Angola

4. Tunisia

5. Egypt

6. Nigeria

7. Cape Verde

8. Senegal

9. Cameroon

10. Guinea

As D’Tigers look to rebuild and regain their standing, the focus will now shift towards upcoming qualifiers and competitions where they hope to improve their ranking and re-establish themselves as a dominant force in African basketball.
