Bilateral trade between China and Nigeria has reached $15.48 billion between January and July 2025, marking a 34.7% year-on-year increase.

According to Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, Nigeria has become China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa. This significant growth reflects the strengthening relations between the two countries.

The elevation of relations between China and Nigeria to a comprehensive strategic partnership at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit has created broader prospects for cooperation. The partnership has led to deepening collaboration in infrastructure, energy resources, trade, culture, and education, bringing tangible benefits to citizens of both nations.

China’s economy remains resilient despite global challenges, recording 5.3% GDP growth in the first half of 2025 while maintaining its global leadership in innovation. The Consul-General commended the Chinese community in Nigeria for their contributions to cultural exchanges, local development, and charity initiatives.

The Chinese Consulate General in Lagos has assured that it will continue to safeguard the welfare and interests of Chinese nationals in Nigeria while supporting bilateral cooperation. The Consul-General urged the Chinese community to remain bridge-builders in strengthening China-Nigeria friendship and to promote lawful and safe business practices.

The growing trade relationship between China and Nigeria is expected to continue, with both countries working together to promote economic development and cooperation. The Consul-General’s assurance and call to action underscore the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic ties and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
