In celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on several prominent figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau.

In his October 1st nationwide broadcast, Tinubu announced that Senate President Akpabio and Chief Justice Kekere-Ekun have been awarded the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). Deputy Senate President Barau and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, received the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) honour, while Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu was bestowed the Commander of the Order of Niger (CON).

During his address, Tinubu emphasised Nigeria’s resilience and urged citizens to rise above present challenges, stating, “We are Nigerians—resilient and tenacious. We always prevail and rise above our circumstances.” He encouraged the public to continue believing in the nation’s promise, expressing confidence in the country’s potential for a brighter future.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a greater Nigeria, where opportunities are accessible to all, and urged Nigerians to join the government in working towards a more prosperous and inclusive nation.

Tinubu concluded with a message of unity and determination, asserting that despite the difficulties ahead, with collective effort, Nigeria can achieve shared success and dignity for future generations.
