An unidentified man set a mosque on fire early Wednesday morning at Laraba Abasawa in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving several worshippers injured.

The attack occurred during the ‘Subh’ prayer, with around 40 members of the community present. According to an anonymous community member, the assailant used petrol to ignite the fire and then locked the mosque doors, trapping the worshippers inside.

“It took time for people outside to become aware of the incident and rescue the victims who were struggling to break out,” the source said.

At least 20 worshippers sustained serious injuries and have been rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment. The identities of the injured individuals and the perpetrator have not yet been disclosed.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and more details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
