In the wake of the unexpected demise of Access Bank’s former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, Bolaji Agbede has been named as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer, pending approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The announcement was made by the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc on February 12, 2024. Ms. Agbede, with a strong professional background spanning nearly three decades, is poised to steer the affairs of Access Holdings Plc through this challenging period.

In a statement, the Board highlighted Ms. Agbede’s extensive experience and strategic acumen, emphasizing her pivotal role within the organization. “Ms. Agbede’s leadership qualities and strategic insight make her the ideal candidate to lead Access Bank at this critical juncture,” remarked a spokesperson for the Board.

Ms. Agbede’s journey in the banking and business consultancy sector began in 1992 at Guaranty Trust Bank, where she quickly ascended to managerial positions. Subsequently, she assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at JKG Limited, a prestigious business consulting firm, in 2003.

Her association with Access Bank Plc commenced in 2003 when she joined as an Assistant General Manager responsible for managing the bank’s portfolio of chemical trading companies.

Over the years, Ms. Agbede’s leadership prowess saw her rise through the ranks, culminating in her tenure as the Bank’s Head of Group Human Resources from 2010 to 2022.

“I am honored to be entrusted with this responsibility during such a challenging time,” Ms. Agbede remarked. “I am committed to upholding Access Bank’s legacy of excellence and guiding the institution towards continued success.”
