In a recent press briefing, a U.S. official, Matthew Miller, Department Spokesperson highlighted the significance of engaging with African nations such as Nigeria and Angola, emphasizing both the challenges and opportunities on the continent.

The official discussed diplomatic efforts to prevent Middle East escalations, expressing concerns about tensions involving Pakistan and condemning Iran’s actions, citing its history of supporting terrorism.

Addressing the Israel-Hamas conflict, the U.S. urges Israel to exercise restraint, avoid damaging critical infrastructure, and comply with international humanitarian law. Matthew  emphasizes the need for a two-state solution for long-term security and peace, despite challenges posed by Hamas using civilian sites for military purposes.

On the Yemen front, the official acknowledges the complexity of the situation, stating that while fewer countries engage in direct military action, a broad coalition condemns Houthi attacks. The U.S. remains committed to applying diplomatic and military pressure to address the crisis.

In response to questions about escalating tensions, the official refrains from providing specific details but emphasizes ongoing diplomatic discussions. The U.S. stresses the importance of free and fair elections in Pakistan and expresses concern about recent cross-border strikes.

Other topics include the Babri Mosque site in India, Nagorno-Karabakh peace efforts, the detention of a journalist in Russia, and corruption sanctions in Guatemala. The official maintains a diplomatic tone, refraining from direct comments on certain situations while underlining the U.S.’s commitment to peace, stability, and democratic processes.
